A girl with average looks and poor grades sees a boy on the first day of high school and falls head-over-heels in love with him. Kotoko (Honoka Miki) admires Naoki (Yuki Furukawa), the most handsome and smartest boy in school, from afar for three years. But fate throws them together under one household when her family home is struck by a falling meteor and destroyed. During her home’s reconstruction, Kotoko’s family stays with her father’s childhood friend, who just happens to be Naoki’s father. Despite living under one roof, can Kotoko possibly get Naoki to think of her as more than just a nuisance? “Mischievous Kiss: Love in Tokyo,” also known as “Playful Kiss: Love in Tokyo,” is a 2013 Japanese drama series. This is the fifth television adaptation of the Japanese manga “Itazura Na Kiss” by Tada Kaoru, following the original Japanese series “Itazura Na Kiss” (1996), the Taiwanese series “It Started With a Kiss” (2005) and its sequel “They Kiss Again” (2007), and the Korean series “Playful Kiss” (2010).

At a high school entrance ceremony, high school student Kotoko Aihara, who isn't that smart, notices pretty boy Naoki Irie. She falls in love with him immediately.

Kotoko initially doesn't express her feelings to him, but finally has a chance to tell him how she feels. Unfortunately, Naoki turns Kotoko down, saying 'I don't like dumb women'. One day, Kotoko Aihara's house is severely damaged by an earthquake.

We get to find out in this enjoyable Japanese TV series. High IQ (Naoki) appears to have been infected by Love (Kotoko) when he offers her his first kiss, almost as a token to keep her engaged in the chase. But after that, and with more gentle persistence by Kotoko, we get to watch to see if she's the only one captivated. Some might think Naoki is just a high IQ abuser of others not as intelligent as himself, and that might be true if his behavior did not change over time.

But what happens is totally fun to watch (even though I had to read sub-text, being English-Irish American). 'Mischievous Kiss: Love in Tokyo' (Season 1 & 2 on Netflix) is an absolutely wonderful TV series for those who enjoy romantic comedies.
