Hkeylocalmachine Software Clients Mail Default Program
I have recently upgraded from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 on a Dell Latitude laptop. Now, I periodically get an error message pop up: 'There is no email program associated to perform the requested action.'
Two issues: 1. First, there was no 'requested action'! I wasn't trying to do anything. The error pops up even when the computer is idle with no open programs running. How do I find out what is requesting an email action? There is an email program associated.
I have tried using the Default Programs desktop app to associated Microsoft's 'Mail' that came bundled with Windows 10, and Thunderbird, neither of which fixed this problem. I have also gone into the control panel Set Default Programs and selected Mail and 'Set this program as default. Use the selected program to open all file types and protocols it can open by default'. I also tried it with Thunderbird. Usb vid 1908 pid 2311 mi 00 1. So there are at least two valid email programs on my system, neither of which makes this error stop popping up. Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.
I still have this nagging problem. I found that even with a default mail program set - when I looked in regedit under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Clients/Mail/ the default was still NOT SET. I added the name of the default mail program to this value - in my case Mozilla Thunderbird, and I am hoping this works. I saw the same info in my registry editor as well. Says 'value not set'. I'm using Live mail and Gmail for clients. I didn't see anything in the menu to set the the value to either one of those programs.
Hi Firehawk, >> There is no other option for Live Mail or Gmail, the two clients that I do use. The mail clients registration is obtained from this registry key.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE Clients Mail and from here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE RegisteredApplications To check if Windows Live Mail is correctly registered, try: Right-click Start, click Command Prompt. Type: reg query hklm software clients mail /s >%userprofile% desktop mailclients.txt Press ENTER Type: reg query hklm software RegisteredApplications >>%userprofile% desktop mailclients.txt Press ENTER Copy the contents of the file 'mailclients.txt' in your Desktop and post the contents here, or upload it to Pastebin.com and post the link here. Note: Gmail doesn't count as a mail client. It's a web-based mail.
Hi, I am using Office 2010, (full version) I also use Windows Live Mail as my email program. For the last number of days I have been receiving a message advising that 'Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client'. Aug 30, 2016 - HKLM Software Microsoft Windows CurrentVersion Explorer Appkey. Click on send e-mail to developer on some Program's About menu or on.
The above commands list what's 'installed' in the system. The desktop mail clients such as Microsoft Office Outlook, Windows Live Mail, Thunderbird etc. Ex-MVP (2003-2012) (Windows Client).
