Ahci Driver Windows 7 64 Bit

I have been told that i have to have the bios set to AHCI when installing Windows 7., When i have tried this With Windows 7 Pro 64-bit it doesnt recognize the H.D. I have also read the KB (regedit) and am thinking that that doesnt seem right for proper Windows installation. If have to go into AHCI at all. And from what i have been told is that AHCI mode is for proper writing of the drivers to the disk. And so that raises a question?, if unable to install windows originally in AHCI (no detection) how is it that windows has been installed correctly at all?

Jun 29, 2012  I have been told that i have to have the bios set to AHCI when installing Windows 7., When i have tried this With Windows 7 Pro 64-bit it doesnt recognize the H.D. I have also read the KB (regedit) and am thinking that that doesnt seem right for proper Windows installation.

If i end up having to install in IDE mode? IDE or AHCI is standard?, for Windows 7?, and this motherboard? From what i understand is that windows installs an intel AHCI (built into WIndows 7) if i am correct., Does Windows have an AMD AHCI? My System is going to be Asus M5A99X Motherboard, AMD Six-Core 1090t, 12Gb ram, Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. I also had similar issues with my Asus M4A88TD-V EVO/Usb 3.0 This is the original builds motherboard and is the current motherboard until i figure this out. I am hesitent to teardown and rebuild with the new Asus M5A99X Motherboard.

The following is what i posted on my Asus Forum; I have just bought this M5A99X brand new now (previous motherboard was refurbished and had no audio, no support disc, From Newegg.com)from Microcenter and i am hesitent to start tear down and rebuild of my Custom build until i figure this AHCI configuration out. On my previous motherboard i tried this and it didnt see the HDD. This is confusing becuase if one thing works another doesnt 0_o I have read the On AHCI and; So what is the proper steps to proper configuration? IDE first then to AHCI. If the AHCI drivers are loaded then back to AHCI right away?, and then do i keep it in AHCI or ide and if AHCI when?, When i read that; it seems to suggest that i have to install in ide mode and then REGEDIT. Problem is if my computer crashes before i even get a chance to do that then what? I am not currently trying to do a Raid Config, just a normal install on one Seagate beracutta 2tb 6Gb/s Hard drive.

This is from my Answers forum; (same as this forum post) the follwing is similar to my issue; I am having a similar issue and am wondering what the final steps'/solution is? I'm not sure that I understand what you've done. You were able to boot from the Windows 7 installation DVD? Did that require that the optical drive be on SATA 5 or 6, and that those ports be configured as IDE? (If I understand the manual correctly, the IDE setting would be necessary.) If you got that far, had the HD connected to SATA 1-4 (configured as AHCI), and the Windows installer couldn't see the HD, that suggests that the AHCI drivers built in to Win7 don't support the AMD 990X chipset. (Which was released in 2011.) Perhaps downloading the AMD AHCI drivers (from support.asus.com, for your board) and having them on hand during the Win7 installation will help.

(That wasn't necessary on any of the Intel-based desktop systems I've installed Win7 on. My oldish laptop with an AMD CPU and nVidia chipset doesn't support AHCI, so there were no issues there.) I'm not sure how useful AHCI is with a spinner. It's significant with an SSD: I believe that it's required for TRIM support. Incidentally, I've long preferred to install Win7 from a bootable USB drive. Goes much quicker than from a DVD, even if the USB flash drive isn't a fast one. Thankyou for responding, I have not proceeded with anything yet, what i have done here is provided the facts.

And what i have done in the past of what has been unsuccessful. And so with my purchase of a new motherboard from microcenter (4-20-12) i am waiting to proceed with the teardown and rebuild of the custom computer because i am not sure how to proceed. That 1-4 config that you are refering to, i think is, what might be trippin me up.

Intel sata controller ahci driver for windows 7 (64-bit) hp

Becuase between that screenshot and the next one i think you can see why im stumbling on this issue. (The manual is rather ambiguous) what i am about to do is remove the M4A88TD-V EVO and install the new M5A99X-EVO (Currently havent Started).

The M4A88TD-V evo was a refurbished motherboard from Newegg.com and when i originally powered the system up there was no onboard audio and now there is no PCIe_1 slot (dead slot and the Motherboard is in degradation)) Asus Support recommend of RMA of the M4A88TD-V EVO ($100 for repair vs. $150 for new board = new motherboard) yeah i am trying to figure this out i think i know just about as much just as much as everyone else so please bear with me while i gather all the facts. (The Manual is a little ambiguous) here is another page of the M5A99x EVO Manual on SATA The hard drive i am using is a seagate beracutta 2tb 6Gb/s I have noticed in a forum and now that you have brought it up again varifies a little further toward the Asus AHCI driver from asus and installed when installing the os. Problem is i cant get from setting the Bios setting to AHCI to the windows installation (doesnt detect the drive and BSOD) and so the only way i have been able to install was IDE/SATA config. I am trying to verifying that if im supposed to use AHCI or i am supposed to be using what i originally had to do with my original Motherboard on this build and that was just IDE/SATA How do i go about Installing windows from a USB drive? Because that sounds intreging.
