Add Kb Update To Wsus Server Diagnostic Tool
Add-Wsus Computer: Adds a client computer to a target group. Add-Wsus Dynamic Category: Adds a dynamic category to a WSUS server. Approve-Wsus Update: Approves an update to be applied to clients. Oct 29, 2013 Describes update 2828185 for Windows Server Update Services 3.0 SP2. Microsoft has released an update for Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) 3.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2). 2819484 CAB file that is exported by using the Wsusutil.exe command is displayed as 0 KB on a Windows Server 2012-based WSUS server.
Usually I get a list of Windows updates KB numbers which I have to check the approval status on WSUS server for. So for me it is very annoying (and time consuming) to open WSUS console and then search for each of it. Please help me - How to retrieve the WSUS update by KB using PowerShell? My idea is to have a script which takes list of KB numbers and for each of the KB numbers tells me if the update is approved ( or list the groups to which the update was approved is also acceptable).
Thank you all for helping.

I'm a newbie to WSUS so forgive my learning curve!:) Using Server 2012 WSUS (4.0?) and a couple of test clients across OS's. Seeing some differences between WSUS and direct to Windows Update. On both my Win7e and Win8p clients: - Windows Update says no updates - WSUS says 2 Windows updates (KB931125 and KB2798897) - one published yesterday and one published 15 days ago.
- Why is WSUS showing updates that Windows Update isn't? Now I have seen where WSUS DIDN'T have something Windows Update did have (IE 10) and I could load that in manually, but I haven't seen any updates that WSUS had that Windows Update didn't. Anyone else seen this or can explain it? Thank you -Andrew Edited Mar 29, 2013 at 17:16 UTC. KB931125 was marked as 'Updates' and is NOT in my auto-approve rules. I did manually approve this one. I am auto-approving Critical Updates, Definition Updates, Security Updates.

I'm not storing update files locally, computers will install from Microsoft Update. Thank you for the link - API docs and client/server diagnostics - Client diags returned: WSUS Client Diagnostics Tool Checking Machine State Checking for admin rights to run tool..... PASS Automatic Updates Service is running..... PASS Background Intelligent Transfer Service is running.. PASS GetFileVersion(szEngineDir,&susVersion) failed with hr=0x80070002 The system cannot find the file specified.
The only server diags that looked relevant was PurgeUnneededFiles. Ran that errored out with: Unhandled Exception: System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.UpdateServices.Common, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. File name: 'Microsoft.UpdateServices.Common, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' at Microsoft.SoftwareDistribution.Tools.SusServerTool.Main(String[] args) I'm not sure any of that diag info helps, sure doesn't seem relevant to me. Thanks -Andrew.
From: Revision note, January 11, 2013 The KB 931125 package that was posted to Windows Update and WSUS on December 11, 2012, was intended only for client SKUs. However, the package was also offered for server SKUs. Because some customers reported issues after they installed the package on servers, the KB 931125 updates for server SKUs were expired from Windows Update and WSUS. We recommend that you sync your WSUS server and approve the expiry. Maybe somehow the target machine has picked up that this update is expired.

This error is a manifestation of running the 32-bit ONLY Microsoft Client Diagnostic Tool on a 64-bit system.
These results are inconclusive. Try the, which does run on both 32-bit and 64-bit systems.

The most recent edition of KB931125 was published in December, 2012. KB931125 for Server operating systems has been Expired. If you've not Declined those Expired updates, it's possible that the WSUS console will show them as 'Needed' for server operating systems.
KB931125 should NOT be installed on a Server operating system. There are two instances of KB2798897, one published on (expired) and one published on 1/3/2013 (current). Make sure you have Declined the 12/31 instance of that update so that it does not erroneously display invalid state data in the console. However, neither of those two updates have had any changes in the past three months, so the other important question is to be sure you're looking in the *Release Date* column and not the *Arrival Date* column. The 'Release Date' column is not displayed in the default console.
